Exercise Physiologists (EPs) are allied health professionals who work within the healthcare system in private clinics, hospitals, community health services and other healthcare settings. EPs commonly work alongside physiotherapists, osteopaths, dietitians, occupational therapists and a range of other allied health professionals. As we become aware of how crucial exercise is to overall health and prevention of illness, the role of EP is even more important.

EPs will prescribe exercise to assist people in improving their function and overall quality of life, whilst also using education or exercise-based counselling to assist people in managing their health concerns or conditions. EPs have a thorough understanding of exercise and how the body responds to different exercise types, allowing them to promote safe and effective exercise completion. Whilst not able to diagnose injuries, EPs will prescribe exercise to assist rehabilitation and help with achieving a safe return to work or sport. EPs can run both group & 1:1 sessions for all ages & abilities.

EPs can assist with helping people manage the following health concerns or conditions:

  • Pre-habilitation or rehabilitation from surgery
  • Chronic Disease Prevention & Management (inc. diabetes, mental health, osteoarthritis, cancer, osteoporosis, heart and lung conditions)
  • Chronic Pain Management
  • Neurological Conditions (inc. Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, Head Injuries)
  • Falls and Balance Training
  • Weight Management
  • Returning to sport or work following injury
  • Neurodevelopmental Conditions
  • General strength & fitness improvements

The good news is you don’t need a referral to see an EP under private Health and can be referred under Workcover, DVA, TAC or Medicare through your health professional or GP.
